Psychiatry Services

 

The Psychiatric Department of Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center’s Outpatient Clinic is staffed by its Medical Director and adult psychiatrist, one child psychiatrist and one Family Nurse Practitioner. Other department personnel include a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse and support staff. Psychiatric staff office primarily at the Winona office, but also see clients on a regularly scheduled basis at both the Caledonia and Wabasha sites.

Dedicated to mental health wellness and preventative health care services to clients, the psychiatric department is comprised of:

Psychiatry: Of the two psychiatrists, one specializes in the treatment of adult clientele, and the other in children and adolescents. Along with standard treatment services addressing mental health issues, the psychiatry department offers psychiatric assessments and medication management.

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): The FNP is a strong support to the psychiatry team. A FNP performs outpatient client psychiatric assessments, medication prescribing and other essential duties under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Registered Nurse (RN): Registered nurses provide expertise in the assessment and delivery of patient care including visitation and observation, health and wellness education, medication monitoring, and crisis intervention.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): LPN’s perform a variety of duties. They offer valuable assistance to the psychiatrists concerning medication orders, and contribute to an array of patient assistance programs in many needed areas.
